Beautiful area surrounded by mountains and walking trails, and they allow you to take rocks from the park. Amazing sunset and lots of wild life to see.
Wife and I planned on staying 3 days but needed an extra day. The camp host Karen was very helpful making that happen. Would recommend staying here again. Thanks for a great experience.
As always, a beautiful place to stay. Quite and spacious. And I mean spacious. The spots are huge. And the views are Amazing!! We love this hidden little gem off I-10! We
During my first visit to New Mexico, I had the opportunity to explore Rockhound State Park, which is located just 7 miles southeast of Deming. This state park is known for its abundance of minerals, including quartz crystals, geodes, jasper, perlite, and many others, making it a popular destination for mineral enthusiasts.
Upon our arrival at the park, we were warmly greeted by our hosts, Connie and Mildred, who made us feel right at home. The campsite was situated alongside a mountain, providing a stunning backdrop for our stay. The setting was incredibly peaceful and quiet, allowing us to truly unwind and enjoy nature.
One of the highlights of our stay was the well-designed camp pads, which were both spacious and beautiful. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Rockhound State Park and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and mineral-rich getaway.
I visited for just one night and found the campground full (or fully reserved). The host generously allowed me to spend the night in the day-use area, which was fine by me. The relative isolation there moved me further away from camp-neighbors with lights. I had a great night of sky photography. Even with Deming lights visible just a few miles away, this is a reasonably dark location with thousands of stars spread above!
This is an excellent RV stop with beautiful views. The reserved sites are large, have a ramada, fire pit and garbage can and are well-maintained. Our spot was raked. The public restrooms have shower and were spotless.
We really liked this place. One of the few parks (only 2) parks that allow campers to take rocks. Nice trail to follow. Sites are fairly level with covered tables and fire rings.
We absolutely love Rockhound and have been here many times over the past 6 years. The sites are a nice size, the camp hosts are amazing, the campground is very well cared for. The one time I used the shower I could never get any hot water, though my husband said he had almost too much. The temperature adjustment in the shower is really weird, so maybe I just couldn’t figure it out. This time the water pressure in our motorhome was really, really low. I thought my husband hadn’t turned the water on all the way. Our site was at the top of the hill, that could have had something to do with it. The hiking trail is short but wonderful, and there are benches along the top for you to sit and take in the amazing sunsets.
